Florists across the United States have been swamped with calls about mysterious deaths and disappearances over the past month.
On February 17, the owner of the La Boca Florist, in Venice, Florida, was found dead in a room.
In early March, a man claiming to be the owner, Daniel F. Baeck, was arrested after authorities discovered he was planning to sell his business, which he has owned since 2011, to a buyer with connections to the Gambino crime family.
Then on March 18, a woman claiming to belong to the same family was found stabbed to death in her home in the city of Miami Beach.
And on March 20, a 22-year-old man was found fatally shot in his home in Miami Gardens, Florida.
All of these cases come as police and the FBI are still investigating who the person(s) responsible may be.
Authorities have not yet revealed the motive behind the disappearances.
“I think it’s just a coincidence,” said Detective Joe DeMarco, Miami Beach Police Department.
“It could be the business owner had some personal issues.
It could be some drug dealing going on.
It’s too early to say.”
The police department has been working with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the U.S. Marshals Service, to try and find the killer, but they are not sure who they are looking for.
Investigators say there is no evidence of foul play.
