(AP) Lafaye La has found himself in a hot seat in his own town.
La, a florists shop owner in southern France, says he was ordered by the town’s mayor to stop selling flowers to people who are suspected of having illegal sex with minors.
La says the mayor has demanded he stop selling roses, and he says the flowers are now on the streets.
La is a member of the Socialist party.
He was suspended from his job last month, and the town is now looking into his actions, a local newspaper reports.
The florister says the city of Lafayette is investigating the case.
In a statement, La’s floristers association said it is cooperating with the investigation.
La says the town of around 1,200 people has been affected by a wave of sex crimes linked to prostitution and prostitution rings.
It says a local resident has come forward to say he was a suspect in the ring.
He said he was asked to stop flowers from being sold.
The flowers are sold now, but he says he will not sell more.
